The Internet Reflections ProjectInternet Reflections (IR) is an application that generates Collages from objects automatically downloaded from the Internet.
As the name implies the IR project is about generating an honest reflection of how any given theme is represented on the Internet. The Internet is a very interesting medium because it redefines some of the characteristics usually attached to mass-medias in "postindustrial" society. While on the Internet you act as both sender and recipient at the same time, and the traditional borders between public and private gets interwoven. Because of this the Internet offers a jungle of chaotic, biased, contradictory, interesting and far out information. The Internet offers the full spectrum of freely accessible information on any given subject. That is why I thought that writing a program that provides an honest Internet Reflection for any given keyword would be a cool idea. The IR project is still in a very early stage and will be elaborated further in the future.
Internet Reflections (IR) searches the Internet for websites relating a theme of your choice. If you have entered a theme which can be associated with adult, violent or in other ways unpleasant subjects, IR will most likely download pictures that are adult, violent, unpleasant and so forth. No filters are applied and if your theme is "war crimes" you will get pictures of war crimes! So please choose your theme with caution!
This is the first public release of Internet Reflections (IR) and it should be considered as a prototype. The implementation is stable and IR runs the way I intended it but I haven't gotten around to doing anything fancy with IR yet.
